
Christelle Matou is a Paris native with roots in Guadeloupe, whose passion for visual storytelling led her to earn an MFA in Stage and Film from NYU Tisch. She found her voice as a production designer and began her career designing a wide range of short films—from sci-fi and horror to character-driven dramas. Her work was screened at major festivals around the world, from New York , LA, Berlin to Clermont-Ferrand, Paris, Cape Town to Shanghai. Christelle designed the feature What We Do Next directed by Stephen Belber (Apple TV+ and Amazon Prime Video) Most recently, she wrapped production design on the French feature Fracture Invisible, directed by Jean-Michel Loutoby, now in post.
Christelle is a member of the Production Designers Collective, an organization made up of 1300 Production Designers across 35 countries dedicated to mutual support through sharing knowledge, encouragement and experience. She has taught Design|Film Production at NYU Tisch School of the Arts and continues to be a regular mentor.
Christelle’s Film credits as Costume Designer include A Lullaby To Love, Confidence, Splashes of Dye, and Kashmir. Christelle’s work for Stage includes Theatre, Concerts, Dance productions and Opera such as The Glimmerglass Festival’s productions of Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Verdi’s Il Trovatore, Offenbach’s Songbird (La Périchole).Christelle designed the costumes for the Nashville Symphony new opera The Jonah People: A Legacy of Struggle and Triumph composed by Hannibal Lokumbe.
