Christelle Matou is a Paris native with roots in Guadeloupe, whose passion for visual storytelling led her to earn an MFA in Design for Stage and Film from NYU Tisch. She found her voice as a production designer and began her career designing a wide range of short films—from sci-fi and horror to character-driven dramas including Cracked (HBO MAX), a Spike Lee Production Fund Grant and directed by Lin Que Ayoung. Her work has been screened at major festivals around the world, from New York, LA, Berlin, Clermont-Ferrand, Paris to Shanghai and has received Best Production Design Awards in festivals, the latest at the 2025 Fame Short Film Festival in Cape Town. Christelle production designed the feature What We Do Next directed by Stephen Belber (Apple TV+ and Amazon Prime Video). Most recently, she was the production designer on the French feature Fractures Invisibles, directed by Jean-Michel Loutoby, selected in many festivals and winning 7 awards including at the 2025 Cannes FIFI, the 2025 Chelsea Film Festival, and the 2026 LAMVA festival.

Christelle is a member of the Production Designers Collective, an organization made up of 1300 Production Designers across 35 countries dedicated to mutual support through sharing knowledge, encouragement and experience. She has taught Design | Film Production at NYU Tisch School of the Arts and strives to remain a mentor to recent graduates. 

Christelle’s Film credits as Costume Designer include A Lullaby to Love, Confidence, Splashes of Dye, and Kashmir. Christelle’s work for Stage includes Theatre, Concerts, Dance productions and Opera such as The Glimmerglass Festival’s productions of Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Verdi’s Il Trovatore, Offenbach’s Songbird (La Périchole).Christelle designed the costumes for the Nashville Symphony new opera The Jonah People: A Legacy of Struggle and Triumph composed by Hannibal Lokumbe.
